Thoughts after reading(old idea)
China and the West: Encounters with the Other in Culture, Arts, Politics and Everyday Life
First, it tells how the development of Chinese subculture has been influenced by western culture from the historical level, taking “rock and roll” as an example. After analyzing the rock with Chinese characteristics, the author talked about punk culture.
“Babe writer” mentioned in the book refers to a group of innovative Chinese female writers born after the 1980s. I searched this information and found that part of the images of subculture women writers at that time were manipulated by commercial capital, which was not completely true
Subculture image symbols have been expropriated and translated, and become popular elements of entertainment culture idols. For example, Chunshu, a representative of the post-80s writers, succeeded in getting the top position under the title of “punk”, which is just a typical case of subcultural symbol marketing. In 2002, through the bookseller’s planning and packaging, her first novel “Beijing Dolls – cruel youth confession of a 17-year-old girl”, was published, creating the impression of cruelty and rebellion. Chunshu’s style writing of this group’s life from the perspective and mentality of subcultural youth really touched the spiritual pulse of subculture. However, this young writer , who claims to love punk spirit, has obviously misread punk. But at that time, the image of punk rebellion and alternative has become a big selling point of pop culture. Under the hype and pursuit of publishers and media, the bundling sale of Chunshu works and punk image has become a foregone conclusion.
With the influence of the development of Internet, young writers and Internet novels have become popular. However , while reading the analysis of the interviews with young people, I found that most of the answers to the interviews expressed criticism on China’s system, which made me feel that the author was not objective enough when writing, and the personal feelings and positions affected the more in-depth analysis of China’s youth culture.
In conclusion, I think the style, form and practice of subculture are far more complicated, showing a greater trend of diversification, and its connection with economic process is also gradually getting far away. In today’s era of globalization, when the mainstream culture of globalization and local culture are connected and reconnected in a far more complex and changeable context, the classification of youth subculture is increasingly blurred, and the relationship between style, musical interest and identity is becoming increasingly fluid. Today ‘s youth subculture is no longer the style of modern people and skinhead party, which can be classified and summarized, but a new subculture form with more “mixed” nature.
