New inspiration and topic(old idea)
After the SWOT analysis of research problems, I found that I have a very obvious weakness that the theme is too broad and lack of unique selling point,, so I decided to rethink and find new meaningful research topics.
In the process of thinking, I saw a series of works “girls” by Luo Yang, a Chinese photographer. Luo Yang has been looking for and photographing different kinds of Chinese girls since 2007. Every girl has a unique personality, they have commonality, but they shine with individual brilliance. These photos seem to witness the transformation of Chinese femininity and identity of women.
Among the women photographed, many belong to the subculture community. Their unique personalities and stories have aroused my interest in exploration. In China, how do these “rebellious” girls resist the oppression of the mainstream patriarchal society by participating in the subculture? What are they talking about under their dress sense that surpasses the popular aesthetic? How do they construct their own identity?
Therefore, I have determined to study the identity of Chinese young women and subculture fashion from the perspective of feminism.
